How to distinguish between 267, 305, and 350 c.i. crankshafts.

These stock cast crankshafts are all identical in size and shape, and carry the same 442 casting number. There is however a differance in the factory balance, and can lead to vibration if used in the wrong application. The following is how to identify each crank, courtesy of Crankshaft Rebuilders in Sanford, FL.

Each crankshaft has 4 large drilled balance holes, two in the front counterweight and two in the rear counterweight. Stick a scale in all four as shown, and add up the total depths.

Roughly-

2" total depths- 350

3" total depths- 305

4" total depths- 267

Now, you can use each crank in the next larger engine without problem. For instance, you can use the 305 crank in the 350, or the 267 crank in the 305. We have been advised not to use any other combination without rebalancing, or risk vibration.
